Vegetable Gardens for Everyone: It Starts With a Seed

The Master Gardeners are pleased to offer this series of vegetable classes to give today’s avid vegetable gardeners a helping hand in planning their gardens, planting and maintaining healthy plants, and bringing fresh food to the table.
It Starts With a Seed
What is in a seed and how do I get a tomato out of it? We will start off with a quick look inside a seed. Then we will look at and decipher a seed packet and seed catalog listings and learn about the information that they contain, including a discussion on direct sow versus starting seeds indoors. We will delve deeper into starting seeds indoors by looking at different types of “pots’, seed starting mediums, light, temperature, etc. From there we will move outdoors and look at hardening off your seedlings and planting them in the garden, and at direct sow seeds, and how to get them off to a good start.
