Dive into variety selection. With so many options at the garden centers and in seed catalogs, let us help you make the best choices. Along with that, you’ll learn how to plan how big your garden should be to meet your needs. Not much room for a garden? We’ve got you covered with a comprehensive approach to patio gardens and growing your veggies in pots.

The Best Vegetables to Grow 9 a.m.

Deciding to establish a vegetable garden is easy - you want to eat fresh, locally grown produce, or you just want the satisfaction of growing what you eat. Actually establishing the garden is a process that begins with decision making; organic or non-organic, what to grow, how to grow, when to grow, how much to grow, where to purchase necessary seeds or starts. This class will address all of these questions, ensuring veggie gardening success!

How Big Should Your Garden Be? 10:30 a.m.

This session focuses on planning garden size. How much growing space do you need to meet your goals? Are you interested only in fresh vegetables only or do you want to grow enough to preserve for winter months? Want just enough for a seasonal dinner salad, or a steady harvest to feed your family? Want to grow enough cucumbers for your entire neighborhood? We will review some creative and practical garden themes, methods, and resources to help you plan just the right size garden. Instructor:

Soon you'll have healthy, delicious produce growing right outside your door! We'll cover what types of vegetables grow best in containers; types of containers; soil requirements; when, why, and how to fertilize; light and temperature requirements; and watering needs.
