Kingston YardWorks Project

YardWorks Program in Kingston

In 2015 Landscape Architecture Students from Cornell, under the direction of their professor, Dr. Josh Cerra, brought YardWorks to two neighborhoods in Kingston, NY. 20 landowners from the Clifton and Ponckhockie neighborhoods in Kingston, NY participated in the project. They worked with the Cornell students and CCE Master Gardeners to develop landscape designs for their properties that would increased the overall environmental benefit to their neighborhood. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that coordinated changes on small urban parcels can still have a cumulative beneficial impact to birds, pollinators other wildlife and the environment.

In 2016 CCEUC, with funding from Cornell is expanding YardWorks to the neighborhoods by offering native flowers and shrubs for planting and continuing to expand the outreach efforts for the program.

YardWorks is an outreach Design Studio based out of the Cornell Landscape Architecture Department working directly with Kingston, NY landowners. The studio took place during the Spring 2015 semester and was lead by Professor Josh Cerra, with help from Graduate students Sean Tang (Research Assistant) and Megan Funk (Teaching/Research Assistant). The Studio Class is made up of Second-year Graduate Landscape Architecture Students: Stephanie Buglione, Ameng Chen, Julia Gold, Nicolas Grefenstette, Jinhee Ha, Rachel Jawin, Ameila Jensen, Daniel Lambert, Xiaowei Li, Qiuwei Liu, Bobby Ma, Ian Peach, Jianchen Shao, Xiao Shi, Ryosuke Takahashi, Haikun Xu, Judith Yang, Yishan Zhang, and Hongwei Zheng.
