Kingston Garden Bed Project Mentors

The Kingston Garden Bed Project Mentors started in June 2020, evolving out of the meal delivery program from the Kingston Emergency Food Project. The idea was to start local people thinking about food, with the hope that they could be independent in growing some of their own food. The project was quickly funded and 4'x8' raised beds were delivered to a small group of homeowners and renters within the Kingston area. A combination of soil and compost were delivered from Augustine's Nursery and the "new" gardeners were able to pick vegetable plant starters from donations from Hudson Valley Seed Company and Hudson Valley Farm Hub. Some of the new gardeners had never really gardened before so the CCE Ulster Master Gardener (MG) volunteers stepped in to provide mentoring. MG Peggy Berk put it this way, “I think that all of us are very excited about working with our new gardeners. It's really a great way to help out in the community and get people gardening for so many reasons."
