Join Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County for an evening workshop at Vanishing Point Farm focused on sustainable approaches to perennial cut flower production.
This program will offer participants a firsthand look at how perennial plants can be incorporated into a cut flower operation to support long-term productivity, biodiversity, and a distinctive floral product mix. Through a guided farm tour and discussion led by farm owner Lily Bruder-Zal, participants will explore how thoughtful crop selection, ecological growing practices, and intentional farm design can contribute to a resilient, visually dynamic, and market-oriented flower production system.
This workshop is designed for cut flower growers, farmers interested in diversifying their production, and others interested in sustainable approaches to specialty cut flower production.
About the speaker:
With a background in sculpture and landscape design, Lily Bruder-Zal has been producing cut flowers for many years, starting out on a rooftop farm in Brooklyn.
Since 2016, Vanishing Point Farm in the Hudson Valley has specialized in foliage, filler flowers, unusual forms, and subtle colors, bringing new materials to the palettes of New York’s floral designers.
Lily’s gardening’s approach embraces ecological practices such as low impact soil management and sustainable planting plans. The gardens at Vanishing Point Farm are primarily perennial, but also encompass annuals, herbs and ornamental vegetables, and lightly managed meadows and woods.
