Children with healthier eating patterns and that get enough physical activity tend to have better grades, better memory recall, behave better in class, and miss less school. Students spend a majority of time in school, so it’s important to create and maintain a healthy school environment. The school health and wellness committee is made up of school staff and parents/families with the goal of creating a healthy nutrition environment and more opportunities for physical activity.
These meetings are not open to the public without prior approval from the school principal. Others with a vested interest in school health are welcome to join the Kingston City School District Health and Wellness Committee!
For more information on school wellness committees, or how to start one at your school, contact Ninette Warner, school coordinator for the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant (contact information below).
