Managing Flood Risk for Farmers in Ulster County

  • Thursday, November 2, 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Are you concerned about potential flooding on your farm and what you can do to prepare? Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County is hosting a workshop on how farmers and livestock producers can better understand and mitigate their flood risk. Participants can expect to learn how to use FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps to assess their flood risk, the real definition of a “100-year flood,” insurance implications for structures in floodplains, and flood damage mitigation strategies. Topics also include climate resilient farming resources, local disaster preparedness information for livestock producers, emergency plans for how you can prepare for the worst, as well as post-disaster recovery support available. Presenters include floodplain and livestock management experts from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County, the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program, and the Ulster County Departments of Emergency Services and the Environment.

This event is free but space is limited. Register by October 31.
