Children with healthier eating patterns and that get enough physical activity tend to have better grades, better memory recall, behave better in class, and miss less school. Students spend a majority of time in school, so it’s important to create and maintain a healthy school environment. The school health and wellness committee is made up of school staff and parents/families with the goal of creating a healthy nutrition environment and more opportunities for physical activity.
The Kingston City School District Wellness Committee meets five times a year via Zoom to discuss the ongoing efforts to create a culture of wellness in each school. We create implementation plans for the district's local school wellness policy which is updated every three years.
We all have a hand in supporting the health of students in Kingston City School District. If you’re a public health professional, community leader, or just have an interest in the health and wellness of students, you are welcome to join the Kingston City School District Health and Wellness Committee!
