2022 Hudson Valley Value-Added Grain School – Best Management Practices for Processing and Storing Food & Feed Grains

  • Friday, February 4, 2022, 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The 8th Annual Hudson Valley Value-Added Grain School – Best Management Practices for Processing and Storing Food & Feed Grains  will be online on February 4, 2022 from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster and Albany Counties is putting on this meeting for farmers, millers, and businesses using food or feed grains to know the valuable food and feed safety information from state and federal rules. Learn what it takes to get a Commercial Kitchen license from NYS Ag & Markets and proper safety protocols. Many operations in our region come under the size limit for regulation by the federal Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), but food and feed safety is still a top priority. Following the best management practices of the FSMA protects a business. Also learn how to successfully manage rodents and insects in stored grains and facilities. These presentations will deepen your understanding of rodent and insect biology and make a challenging job achievable. There is much more to rodent control than just setting traps. The several traps and tools for insect control will also be explained, including a new use of carbon dioxide for controlling insects. Foodborne illnesses from grain products occur almost every year. Mycotoxins in feed grains is common in our northeast region. This meeting will provide an understanding of what regulations apply to your food or feed grain business and how to keep grains safe.
