Tea Party for American Girl’s 2019 Girl of the Year™, Blaire Wilson, at the 2019 Ulster County Fair

American Girl of the Year™(American Girl), Blaire Wilson - a young chef-in-training who loves bringing people together - joins American Girl’s family of characters and timeless stories designed to help girls think about their own character and who they want to be. Blaire’s story unfolds in a chapter book series written by local author, Jennifer Castle, and published by Scholastic. In the two books, available now, Blaire loves to put her cooking and decorating talents to good use on her family’s sustainable farm and bed-and-breakfast in upstate New York. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County (CCEUC), the Ulster County 4-H Program (4-H), and the Ulster County Agricultural Society realize the parallels of Blaire’s story to many of the local youth who visit the County Fair. To promote Blaire’s story for the youth of Ulster County, we will be hosting an American Girl Tea Party Meet & Greet with the author, Jennifer Castle, at the 2019 Ulster County Fair!
The Tea Party includes an author presentation where Castle will share how Blaire's character and stories came together and were inspired by Ulster County. Books will be available for purchase and signing and light refreshments will be provided. Youth are encouraged to bring their favorite doll and dress in Blaire-like attire. The Meet & Greet will be followed by a "game of clue", relating to the game Blaire created in her first book. Those who play will have a chance to interact with local 4-H Youth who own some of the same animals as Blaire! Those who register for the Tea Party will be entered to win a Blaire doll with accessories. Space is limited. Please register by July 25th.

About the Author
Jennifer Castle, author of the 2019 Girl of the Year series, Blaire and Blaire Cooks Up a Plan, grew up writing stories in her head on long school bus rides and was constantly looking for ways to turn her idea-sparks into reality. These included dozens of poems, a homemade magazine that lasted three issues, a barrette-making business, and a cruise boat made of branches and cardboard for the creek behind her house. Eventually, one of her “big ideas” became a published novel, and since then she has written more than ten books for kids and teens, including the Butterfly Wishes series, Together at Midnight, and Famous Friends.
Jennifer lives in New Paltz with her family among the mountains, woods, and bountiful farms of New York’s Hudson Valley with her husband, two daughters, and two striped cats, who also work part-time as her writing assistants.
