4-H Youth Development Program is once again offering a tractor safety certification program for youth. The course takes place on multiple dates, concluding with two days of driving practice classes and a final driving test. Both the practice days (4/25-4/26) and final test (4/27) take place at the Ulster County Fairgrounds (249 Libertyville Road in New Paltz). All other classes will take place at the Stone Ridge Firehouse (address below).

The times of the driving practice dates (4/25-4/26) will be determined later in the course.

The National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program enables young workers (ages 14-19) to obtain a US Department of Labor Certificate of Training which is required to operate farm tractors and equipment. The course is open to anyone 13 years of age and older, however, only those 14 and older will be able to drive and become certified. Participants learn important safety skills and gain an advantage when seeking employment at a lawn or landscaping business, golf course or farm. The instructor, Grant DeWitt, is an Ulster County 4-H alumnus who holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from SUNY Cobleskill and is a former qualifier at the national level in the 4-H Tractor Operation Contest.

Space is limited to the first 20 paid registrants, on a first paid, first served basis. Sorry, no refunds.

Please Note: Participants are not considered fully registered until we have received payment and the 4-H Youth Enrollment Form and the Tractor Safety Acknowledgement of Risk Form. Please fill out both forms and return to the 4-H office (232 Plaza Road, Kingston, NY 12401) via mail or by dropping off no later than 1 week before the start of the program. If we do not receive these forms form prior to the start of the course, we will not reserve a spot and your child will not be permitted to attend.

$40 for already enrolled 4-H members and $50 for non-4-H members, which includes the Student Manual.
