How to Take Garden Photos Like a Pro

Join us to learn about photographing your garden - how to do it like a pro!  We'll learn while using the beautiful Master Gardener Demo Garden as a backdrop.  

This class is a part of the FREE gardening classes hosted by the Master Gardener Program through their “Learning in the Garden" series, appropriate for gardeners of any level.

Some notes on this class:

  • We will concentrate on both garden overview and individual bloom images. Garden overview photos will concentrate on shape, colors, and texture. Individual bloom photos will concentrate on making the best portrait of the flower.
  • The attendee should have a working knowledge of their camera and how to change ISO settings and exposure values for optimum exposure. 
  • Tripods are not welcome as they may be in the way, though they are recommended with personal garden photography. 
  • The camera of choice will be a pocket or interchangeable lens camera. While cell phone cameras are wonderful devices, they are not a camera where adjustments can be made and their use will not be covered. 

Classes take place at the Master Gardeners Program’s award-winning Xeriscape garden at SUNY Ulster (491 Cottekill Road in Stone Ridge) on the 3rd Saturday of each month, June through October.

Classes start at 10 am, rain or shine, and last about a half hour (except for the Plant Sale, which runs from 10 am – 12 pm).  See below for the full Learning in the Garden series schedule, and click on the link for each class to learn more, or for a printable brochure click here:
