The Business Side of Starting Your Farm

Are you a new farmer or considering getting into farming?  Join us for a presentation by Elizabeth Higgins, Business Management Specialist with the Eastern NY Commercial Horticulture Program (ENYCHP).

Liz will provide an overview of business topics to consider when starting a farm, including:

  • The basics of starting a business
  • Record keeping and accounting
  • Business planning
  • Loans
  • Where to get help 

About the Instructor:  
Liz started her career in agriculture in policy analysis in Washington, DC, and continued her career working on rural economic development as the director of the Center for Rural Development at Louisiana Tech University.  She most recently worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension in both Ulster and Sullivan Counties as a program leader in Nutrition and Consumer Programs, Watershed Management and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
