From outbreaks of E. coli and botulism to Hepatitis A and Norovirus, foodborne illnesses cost the United States billions of dollars each year while the fiscal impact on commercial, non-profit and municipal enterprises can total thousands of dollars in addition to possible closure of the kitchen facility, according to the National Restaurant Association.
As a result, Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County (CCEUC) is offering a ServSafe® Food Safety Manager Certification course for food service managers and employees who work in restaurants, schools, commercial kitchens, catering, hotels and lodging, hospitals, festival and event venues, and at non-profit facilities – anywhere that food is prepared, handled and served to people to consume.
The program is designed to facilitate a review of the textbook, take practice tests, and then close the day by taking the certification exam. The certification, which is valid for five years, allows participants to bolster their resumes and build their skill base in regard to food safety best practices.
The fee for the one-day program is $150 per person. The fee is non-refundable. Participants must be at least 18 years old. It is required to purchase the ServSafe Manager, 6th Edition textbook from ServSafe and read it prior to the program. It is recommended to pre-register at least 30 days prior to date of course to insure a seat and allow enough time to read the textbook. Click here to purchase text book.
Need to re-certify? If you need to recertify, please purchase the updated 6th edition textbook then come for the review and test. The cost is $75.00 per person for re-certification.
