Farmer - Landowner Matching Programs

Farmer - Landowner Matching Programs help to connect landowners seeking to have their land farmed with farmers seeking land.  Most matching programs provide classified ads as well as links to resources for land leasing and transfer and other information.

New York Farmland Finder

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County is a partner organization of the Farmland for a New Generation, established in 2014 and coordinated by the American Farmland Trust (AFT) to expand farmland linking services throughout New York and the Hudson Valley. The program covers all of New York State and is categorized by region.

The network’s website, Farmland for a New Generation, connects farmers and landowners to strengthen opportunities for agriculture and land conservation in the Hudson Valley.

Through a grant with AFT, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County Ag Program staff can provide some assistance to farmers seeking land or landowners looking for farmers.  We can:

  • Provide some technical assistance in writing a good ad for the Farmland Finder website that characterizes your farmland or farm business and your needs
  • Identify farms or farmers on the website that may be good matches to help navigate the website
  • Provide guidance in assessing land to help landowners target and market their property appropriately and guide landseekers to appropriate properties for their business
  • Offer classes and workshops on farmland access issues
