2024 Master Gardener Garlic and Bulb Sale

This year the Master Gardeners are expanding their fall fundraiser! They are selling Certified Organic Music Garlic that everyone loves in addition to some flowering bulbs. New this year shallots in limited supply!

Pick-up will be on Saturday October 5th from 10am-12 noon at our office at 232 Plaza Road, Kingston.

Music Garlic is a very popular selection derived from German Extra Hardy. It is prized for its jumbo cloves, long storage potential, and strong field performance in cold climates. Skins are very thick and tightly wrapped, with creamy white color. Expect 4–5 cloves per head. A stiff hardneck type.

A large, red skinned, dutch style shallot with excellent storage life.

1/2 pound of seed shallots (plantable cloves) can be planted in the fall or early spring. You will get a cluster of shallots from each plantable clove.

A large, red skinned, dutch sytle shallot with excellent storage life. With growing shallots directly from seed you will get one shallot per seed.

Direct Sow: In April or early May, or as soon as the soil can be work in the spring, sow 2 seeds per inch., 1/4– 1/2" deep, rows 12–18" apart. Thin to 2" apart for highest yield.

Start indoors: Sow seeds indoors in flats in late February to mid-March. Broadcast 1/2" apart and cover 1/4". Tops may be clipped to 5" tall. Transplant to the garden 4" apart, or sow 5 seeds in each cell of 1–1 1/2" diameter cell trays, thinning to 3 per cell. Transplant each cell 6" apart.

Allium Sphaerocephalon-SOLD OUT

Drumstick allium. The last of the bulbous alliums to bloom. Its egg-shaped, wine-red flowerheads wait until summer to color up. Puts on a nice show when planted in tight groups in a perennial border, and the bees do love it.

Allium Purple Rain-OUT OF STOCK

Very similar to Purple Sensation. It has a bit more red in its purple. Early flowering by the standards of alliums: It is among the first of the big balls-on-a-stick to take on color in the late-spring garden. Attractive and available at a price that allows you to plant in volume.

Allium Siculum-LOW STOCK

Honey garlic. Pendent clusters of cream, green, and maroon bells as spring leans to summer. Unusual, distinctive, architectural, subtle. Also: perennial. “Siculum” means “from Sicily,” and that hints at what this bulb needs: lots of sun and very good drainage.

Pointed buds open to maroon (occasionally white), bell-shaped blooms. Snake’s Head looks like a wildflower and is best used as such — in a meadow, under trees, around shrubs. Happiest in part shade and evenly moist soil.

Daffodil Erlicheer

Erlicheer is a sweetly scented double daffodil that bears 6–12 small white flowers on each stem. The flowers resemble miniature gardenias and are easily as fragrant. Grows well in the South and on the West Coast but may not persist in cold climates.
