Working with your Processor

  • Thursday, March 22, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Do you know the difference between USDA and custom animal slaughter?
Do you know where the closest processors are to you?
Do you understand how to fill out cut-sheets to get the most out of your livestock?

All of these questions and more will be addressed at this free class, the March installment of the P.U.G. (Progressive Ulster Grazers) livestock group.

CCE Ulster County’s Livestock Educator, Jason Detzel, will facilitate a discussion about the process and procedures involved with preparing, loading, transporting, scheduling, and getting the best quality product from the animals you have worked so hard to raise.

We will review maps of all of the processors in the state, requirements for moving animals across state lines, how to read and fill out cut-sheets, and get the most out of your relationship with your particular processor.

Although the class will focus on cattle, pigs, poultry, and small ruminants, we can discuss all manner of livestock. No materials are necessary - just bring your questions and any cut-sheets you may be currently using.

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

This is a free class and open to the public but we ask that you please pre-register by March 20 by emailing jbd222@cornell.edu
