  • Friday, November 3, 2017, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

**Registration deadline: Oct. 31**   REGISTER ONLINE or register by phone with Richard at 845-344-1234.

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension Agriculture Educator, Erik Schellenberg, and guest speaker, Mark Krawczyk, owner of Keyline Vermont, to learn about evaluating land with methods and techniques used in permaculture design.  For a printable flyer, click here.

The workshop will cover the concept of the Scale of Permanence, developed by mining and agricultural engineer P.A. Yeomans.

Participants will spend the first part of the day indoors for a lecture-style class, and the remainder of the afternoon out on a site visit where we will identify the concepts and features discussed in the classroom.

You will learn how to identify important landscape features, and list assets and challenges to the land relative to your goals.  The class will cover:

  • climate
  • landform
  • water
  • access
  • trees
  • structures
  • subdivisions and fencing
  • soil.

About the Instructor:
As a student of permaculture design since 2000, Mark has explored tree crop and agroforestry systems, coppice forestry, natural building, traditional woodcrafts, community organizing and both small and broadacre site design. Additionally, he works as a community educator/organizer with the non-profit he helped found, Burlington Permaculture; as the owner/operator of RivenWoodCrafts, a traditional woodcraft and natural construction business; as a natural building educator with Seven Generations Natural Builders; and as a builder and site design consultant with Eco Systems Design Inc. and the Natural Design/Build Cooperative.
