Farm Business Succession Planning Retreat

  • Friday, January 13, 2017, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Friday, February 17, 2017, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Join CCE Ulster County, the Eastern NY Commercial Hort. Program, the Capital Area Agriculture and Horticulture Program, Ag Mediation, FarmNet and other farm business and legal advisors for a two session program of working facilitated time for farm family or business partners to build a strong business succession strategy. Lunch is included.

Who should attend? Anyone who is hoping to (or in the process of) transferring or selling a farm business, not just land, to the next generation. Bring key decision makers about your farm’s business succession plan.

We are offering this 2-session retreat on January 13 and February 17, from 10 am - 2 pm each day, at CCE Albany County, 24 Martin Road, Voorheesville, NY.

A second session at our Kingston office January 14 and February 18 was cancelled due to low registration.  If you are interested in future classes, send your name, farm name and phone# to Carrie at cad266@cornell.edu and we will be sure to notify you.

Session 1:  Where are we now?

Is the business ready to transfer? Learn tools to put together a financial and family communication plan for business succession. Who needs to be involved and what information is needed to make decisions?

Where are we going?

In the month between the two sessions, farms will be encouraged to begin to put their team together and develop their strategy. They can receive assistance from CCE, Ag Mediation, FarmNet and others.

Session 2:  How will we get there?

In Session 2 we will go over more in-depth legal and financial information about implementing farm business succession plans. What training or information do key participants need? What legal changes are needed? How will these things happen?

You must be pre-registered to attend.

Fee: $20/person, or just $20 for 2 people from the same farm, thanks to a grant from the Duke Charitable Trust and American Farmland Trust.   Lunch is included.
