Rain Gardens and Native Plants Presentation

  • Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Learn the value of using native plants in the home garden, and how to install a rain garden. This free presentation will be given by Master Gardeners Cecily Frazier and Barbara Bravo.

Native plants are one of the most visible elements in the local landscape. They are part of what makes a region unique. Learning and growing native plants promotes a deeper understanding and respect for the land. Cecily Frazier is a Master Gardener Volunteer in Ulster County, a life-long organic gardener, and someone who loves to learn new things about her passion--gardening. She volunteers at the Vanderbilt Garden, and is a founding member of the Rhinebeck Village Tree Commission.

Rain gardens are landscaped, shallow depressions that are designed to intercept, treat and infiltrate stormwater at the source, before it becomes runoff. Barbara Bravo has more than 25 years of experience gardening, where the wildlife is plentiful, and she continues to learn peaceful co-existence. Barbara is a Master Gardener Volunteer with CCEUC and a Garden Coach, as well as coordinator of Garden Day, an annual educational event for gardeners. She has designed rain gardens since 2008 and was in charge of the recent rain garden addition to the Master Gardener demonstration garden at SUNY Ulster.

While the program is free, space is limited! Please register early to reserve your seat with Dona Crawford at 845-340-3990 ext. 335 or email dm282@cornell.edu.
