Our federal funds for the Tech Wizards mentoring program were unexpectedly cut, leaving our weekly STEM program targeting girls and Black and Latino youth in jeopardy. We are looking for one-time stopgap funding to buy us time to shore up additional resources. We are also always looking for Mentors so please contact us.
Why is our program so important? Susan Matloff-Nieves, co-author of "Breaking Through: Helping Girls Succeed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math" helps us understand obstacles for girls, one of target groups: “The biggest obstacles are not academic but rather social factors, including unconscious bias, self-doubt and fear of making mistakes. This was confirmed by a review of the research literature, the interviews that we conducted with women working professionally in STEM fields and our own observations.” Mentoring helps removes these obstacles!
